                                                                                        At S.A.E. Psychological Consulting Ltd. we provide professional training services to individuals and groups that meet the appropriate educational, experiential, and credentialing backgrounds. The services described in this section are offered to professionals seeking to refresh, upgrade, or develop their skill sets. All of our training programs are per-approved by the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF).                                                                                         Course Outlines
                                                                                        Our educational services cover 185 hours of training and instruction related to all areas of substance abuse and dependency disorders. These programs will be delivered in either their entirety or as smaller units.

                                                                                        Substances Overview: 15 Hours
                                                                                        OVERVIEW---This is a training program that provides a full education in the areas of signs and symptoms of use, abuse, and dependency of the most commonly used substances in our society. Beyond this, there will be a full overview of psychopharmacology as it relates to the Addiction Industry. Participants will additionally be provided with a complete overview of the typical medications used for "Medicated Assisted Treatment".

                                                                                        Standardized Assessment Protocols: 20 Hours
                                                                                        OVERVIEW---We provide training and ongoing clinical consultation in the area of Assessment.This training program consists of our ½-day assessment protocol which utilizes a structured clinical interview guide with the additional use of the Addiction Severity Index (ASI). It assesses an individual’s drug and alcohol use, medical, psychological, family, employment, social and legal history. On completion of the interview, the clinician through discussions with our staff or their own clinical director will formulate a diagnosis according to the DSM IV Criteria. If there is a potential for a co-occurring disorder further psychometrics may be used in the assessment phase to ensure qualified professional recommendations are made. The client will also be assessed in regards to their need for detoxification, medical stability, psychological status, readiness to change, risk for relapse and stability of home environment.

                                                                                        Counselling Theory and Skills Development: 35 Hours
                                                                                        OVERVIEW---This training program is focused upon the multiple clinical counselling techniques employed in the various client-therapist relationships. We will primarily explore Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Mindfulness Interventions, Person-Centered Psychotherapy, Behavioral Models of Intervention, Gestalt, and Existentialism. This program is both skills based and experiential; with directions towards where these interventions are best suited (individual, familial, group). Additional critical areas explored will include ethics, record keeping, and case-management.

                                                                                        OVERVIEW---Substance Abuse and Substance Dependence form along bio-psycho-social-spiritual lines; this program examines basic principles of human development and then examines substance issues from prevention through to relapse prevention along human developmental factors.

                                                                                        Adult Intensive Outpatient Dependency Program: 20 Hours
                                                                                        OVERVIEW---S.A.E. Psychological Consulting Ltd. has developed their own Outpatient Programs for dependency disorders; as such, we are able to provide professional training and consultation. This program aims to further motivate and promote behavior change to achieve sobriety. Psycho-educational, psychodynamic and interpersonal groups are utilized to promote further education and insight into the individual’s addictions and their consequences.

                                                                                        Youth Intensive Outpatient Dependency Program: 20 Hours
                                                                                        OVERVIEW---Adolescent dependency disorders need to begin with careful diagnostics as many adolescents have behavioral problems and may not have an addictive disorder---some have co-occurring disorders.  When an individual is diagnosed as having an alternate disorder staff should assist families in finding the best care for their child. If a dependency disorder or co-occurring disorder is identified the clinician should present all the potential resources and/or options for qualified care. This training examines best practices in assessment and Youth treatment.

                                                                                        Adult After-Care Dependency Program: 20 Hours
                                                                                        OVERVIEW---At S.A.E. Psychological Consulting Ltd., we recognize that continuing After-Care treatment is one of the most important contributors for continued sobriety. We have developed a rotating 23-week After-Care Program; as such, we are able to provide professional training and consultation in relation to this service. We strongly recommend and support the utilization and attendance of mutual self-help groups while attending any of our dependency programs and upon discharge.

                                                                                        Adult Outpatient Abuse Program: 20 Hours
                                                                                        OVERVIEW---Many individuals assessed are diagnostically Substance Abusers and not Substance Dependent. At S.A.E. Psychological Consulting Ltd., we recognize the importance of providing psycho-educational and treatment services to these individuals. We have developed an Outpatient Abuse Program that is intended for provision in a one-one setting with a qualified clinician in the Substance Disorders field. We focus our psycho-educational efforts in the areas of coping mechanisms, risk factors, commitment, and relapse. Our goal in this program is to provide every individual the best opportunity for returning to pre-abuse lifestyles.
